Kushadevi child club is the school based child club formed for the students of Shree Kushadevi Secondary School. Manika Humagain, the facilitator of the Kushadevi Child Club shares that the child club has been an effective opportunity, providing a platform for the personal and professional development of children and promoting a culture of social responsibility and activism.
The club, which is run by a group of 15 students, has been actively involved in a variety of activities and events that have had a positive impact on the school and community. These have included quiz contests, debates, drawing contests, and rallies on international occasions, as well as the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. Recently they organized AIDS related awareness program and did a drama on the importance of iodinized diets and awareness on child marriage. Through these activities, the students of the Kushadevi Child Club have had the opportunity to develop a range of skills and competencies that will serve them well both in their academic pursuits and in their future careers.
Manika shares, “After joining the child club, the students have become proactive. They used to shiver infront of mass but now they are confident.” Thus, it seems that children have been able to see growth in their soft skills like leadership, communication, negotiation and teamwork. They have honed their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as their ability to communicate and collaborate with others. They have also gained valuable leadership experience and learned to take initiative and make a difference in their community.
In addition to the personal and professional development of the students, the Kushadevi Child Club has also had a positive impact on the school and community at large. The club has helped to raise awareness about important issues such as gender-based violence and has promoted a culture of social responsibility and activism among the students.
The club has also provided opportunities for the students to get involved in activities outside of school, further expanding their horizons and giving them a sense of purpose and direction. Many of the students have gone on to participate representing their school and community with pride and distinction.
Talking about the future of the child club, Manika shares that the children engaged in child club are positive about taking the legacy of the club. “Similarly, the children who are in club would want to be a part of child/youth network and bring some positive changes in society in the future,” shares Manika.
